Troubleshooting

Find practical next steps for missing content, unavailable commands and file problems.

On this page

I cannot find an object on the canvas

  1. Search for the object in the Outliner and select it.
  2. Return focus to the canvas and press F to frame the selection.
  3. Check whether the object or its containing group is hidden.

A command is unavailable

  • Check the selection: some commands need a particular object type or more than one object.
  • Check whether the object is locked or a shared session restricts editing.
  • Check the guide for the command’s selection, document and input requirements. All local desktop tools are included in Inref.

Media is missing or will not play

  • Check that a linked source folder is still reachable, then use Object > Refresh Linked Folders if applicable.
  • For online media, check the connection and whether the original service still provides the content.
  • For local media, check the format and available playback codecs. Keep the original files while investigating.

A save did not finish

  1. Read the status message and keep the board open.
  2. Check available disk space and access to the destination folder.
  3. Try File > Save As to a writable local folder, using a new filename.
  4. Reopen and check the saved copy before replacing an earlier version.

The app closed before I saved

Reopen an existing board to check for recovery, or use File > Recover Autosaves for untitled work. Recovery is available only when a usable snapshot exists. Review the restored board and save it before continuing.

Information to include when asking for help

  • The InRef version and Windows version.
  • The action you took, the result you expected and what happened instead.
  • The exact status or error message and whether the issue happens again.
  • A small example file or screenshot that you are allowed to share, if it helps reproduce the problem.
